20th March 2005 Windsurfing: Ynyslas Estuary Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 30 knots Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: 12ºC Sea Temperature: 8ºC Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 30.6 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 20.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) The estuary was doing its thing once again. Absolutely howling in there and pretty steady too. I went out with my 5 cammed 5.1m Arrows Tomahawk sail and Sputnik board. Unfortunately I only have one fin 30.5cm for that board and it was just too big meaning that I was struggling the whole time to keep the board on the water and the fin under control. By the end of each run my back leg was burning with the effort of controlling the fin. I had some nice fast runs though but with the choppy waters and overpowered nature of the session I couldn't ever get completely relaxed. Most runs were around 29 knots though and I eventually managed a max speed of 30.6 knots... Pleased to break 30 knots again! Chris came out for half an hour with his 8m kite. The wind was still blowing when I left at about 9.30 after 3 hours on the water and Impi went out well powered up on his 4.5m sail and Larry went out looking a little scared with his 9m kite. Impi has said he'll look for a smaller fin for me soon so who knows I may get one day get to the sort of speeds that board is capable of! I think spring is here!! |
